Nosipho Nausca Jean Ngcaba

Ambassador of South Africa to the Italian Republic,

About

Nosipho is currently the Ambassador of South Africa to the Italian Republic, accredited as a  Permanent Representative to the UN Organisations based in Rome, FAO, WFP, IFAD) and the appointed Commissioner for the South African Pavilion at the 59th edition of the Art Biennale of Venice. She is the accredited Non-Resident High Commissioner to the Republic of Malta and as Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of San Marino.

 

She was the Director General for the Department of Environmental Affairs, previously Environmental Affairs and Tourism for twelve years, with impeccable experience on senior management positions for twenty one years. Previous functions included oversight for various institutions namely the South African Biodiversity Institute (SANBI); South African National Parks; Isimangaliso Wetland authority; South African Weather Services (SAWS), and South African Tourism.

 

She held leadership positions and a representative on behalf of South Africa in various fora:

  • Head of Delegation to various international bodies, among others Rio Conventions, the Conference of Parties (COPs), Convention on Biological Diversity-CBD, Convention on Climate Change-UNFCCC, Desertification and Land degradation- UNCCD, Committee on migratory birds and Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), OECD Committee on Environmental Policy, Global Environmental Facility Council (GEF), a member of the China Council on Sustainable Development and participation in G20 fora
  • Experienced in crafting environmental legislation, leading sustainable development goals, national climate change response policy and, development frameworks for private sector partnerships with public sector
  • Chairship to the Cluster of Directors-General’s on International Cooperation, Trade and Security (ICTS).
  • SADC leadership in Namibia on negotiations during United Nations Convention on Desertification Conference of Parties, served on a number of continental structures Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs), AMCEN, UNEP and SADC desk on conservation and environmental management

Nosipho is passionate about people, culture, sports, community and youth development. She has over the years led efforts in talent management and gender mainstreaming including the empower a child project, advancing gender equality and participation of women in key development initiatives.
